GREETINGS!

Summers at Boundary Bay

“Big Raid Still Remembered

Many residents of Delta will still remember the big raid that took place at Boundary Bay on August 15, 1929. On Saturday evening five officers came ashore from a U.S. revenue cutter and stopped all cars on the Boundary Bay and Point Roberts roads and searched them for liquor. Disaster was narrowly averted in many instances by children who were sent down the road to warn daddy who was on his way out for a quiet weekend at the cottage. Word was soon passed back to cars as they came along and in a short time the officers departed.”

B. C. Directories

In a recent research expedition through the B. C. Directories, City of Vancouver, I came across an entry in the mid 1930s for: “Ivy Lodge for Babies” on Broadway. I can think of several explanations for this, including a home for the babies of “unwed mothers” prior to adoption, or an orphanage -- or just a matter of interest.
